Amazon<\/a><\/span><\/span> is coming out with a Prime-only credit card.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0The e-commerce giant will release the Amazon<\/a><\/span><\/span> Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card in partnership with Chase, Amazon announced on Wednesday. Cardholders \u2014 who must be Prime<\/span><\/a><\/span> members \u2014 will get 5 percent back on all Amazon purchases plus other cash back rewards.<\/span><\/div>\n

Amazon already offers one regular credit card that’s not exclusive to Prime<\/a><\/span><\/span> members. Anyone who has the Amazon<\/a><\/span><\/span> Rewards Visa Signature Card and also has Prime will be upgraded to the new Prime card. That card offered 3 percent cash back on Amazon purchases.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are adding even more value to Prime<\/a><\/span><\/span> by offering rewards on\u00a0Amazon<\/a><\/span> and everywhere else you shop,\u201d Amazon<\/a><\/span> vice president for consumer payments Max Bardon said in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to rewards for Amazon<\/a><\/span> purchases, the Prime card will give cardholders 2 percent cash back for purchases at restaurants, gas stations and drugstores and 1 percent back on all other purchases. The card won’t charge any foreign transaction fees or an annual credit card fee.<\/span><\/p>\n

If an Amazon<\/a> <\/span>customer lapses on their Prime membership, the card will go back to earning only 3 percent cash back from Amazon<\/a><\/span> purchases.<\/span><\/p>\n

Amazon<\/a><\/span> has added benefit after benefit to Prime over the past several months, from music streaming to e-books. The tech giant keeps upping its offerings for Prime<\/a><\/span><\/span> because, simply, Prime <\/a><\/span><\/span>members buy more on Amazon<\/a><\/span><\/span>. According to the financial services firm Nomura, Prime members spend two-and-a-half times as much on Amazon as customers without Prime.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now Amazon<\/a><\/span><\/span>\u00a0is giving customers another reason to sign up for Prime<\/a><\/span><\/span>, and keep spending.<\/span><\/p>\n
