A WhatsApp scam is making the rounds again — and it’s catching people off guard. Hackers are taking over WhatsApp accounts by tricking users into giving up their 6-digit verification code. Here’s how it works:

How the Scam Works:

  1.

    A friend’s WhatsApp gets hacked.

You get a message from their number — it looks real because it is their number.

  2.

They ask for a 6-digit code.

They’ll say something like: “I accidentally sent my code to your number. Can you send it back to me?”

  3.

    You send the code.

But that code is actually for your WhatsApp. Once you send it, they log into your account and repeat the process with your contacts.
