This means that it&#8217;ll be up to the store itself to decide whether to require signatures at checkout. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cIn our digital, fast-paced marketplace, consumers appreciate any opportunity to save time. This is why Mastercard led the charge to officially \u2018retire\u2019 cardholder signatures from store receipts,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.mastercard.com\/press-releases\/mastercard-retires-customer-signatures\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\">said Linda Kirkpatrick<\/span><\/a>, executive vice president, U.S. Market Development at Mastercard. \u201cMerchants recognize that cardholder signatures have limited use, and are embracing this change to create efficiency for their customers.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">With new digital security techniques and the vast majority of people having chip based cards, signatures have become one of the least secured ways of preventing fraud.\u00a0 The ideal scenario to prevent fraud would be the chip and pin authentication (like we have at ATM machines). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Signatures weren&#8217;t preventing fraud to begin with so this change will speed up checkout lines without risking your financial security.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>Shopping is about to get a little quicker and easier.
