    Update 08\/01\/19:<\/strong> The FTC has updated the Equifax Settlement Page<\/span><\/a> with this significant change:<\/span><\/p>\n

    When announced last week, the Equifax Settlement Page stated that all people affected by the breach would be able to request either “Up to 10 years of free credit monitoring OR $125 if you decide not to enroll because you already have credit monitoring.” N<\/em>ow, they’re encouraging people to select the free credit monitoring because the monetary amount you would receive otherwise would be very ‘disappointing.’<\/span><\/p>\n

    If you’ve already put in a claim for the $125, the settlement administrator will reach out to you via email and give you the option to switch to the free credit monitoring.<\/span><\/p>\n

    In September of 2017, Equifax announced<\/span><\/a> a data breach that exposed the personal information of 147 million people. The company has agreed to a global settlement with the Federal Trade Commission, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and 50 U.S. states and territories. The settlement includes up to $425 million to help people affected by the data breach. Each person affected will have the option of getting at least $125 back. The claims process will start after court approval.<\/span><\/p>\n
