Still amazed that this conspiracy theory turned out to be true. Last Week, Apple apologized to its customers for how it use to purposely roll out software updates which slowed down older iPhones including the iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6S and 6S Plus. This obviously angered many people who are now seeking a class-action lawsuit against Apple claiming they wouldn’t have upgraded their phones had there been no slow downs. Competitors like Samsung and LG jumped at this Apple debacle by noting they don’t use such tactics.

Apple said that the slow downs were meant to prevent older batteries from shutting down suddenly. You can read Apple’s Full Message to its customers here.

As a result, Apple will now give customers a $50 discount on a replacement battery. Previously, Apple charged $79 for a replacement, but effective immediately, they’ll only charge $29. Anyone with an iPhone 6 or later will be eligible for a battery replacement. Originally, it was only iPhones that passed Apple’s own diagnostic test on the health of their phone who qualified. The battery replacement offer is expected to reduce iPhone sales in 2018 as less people will look to upgrade. Read our previous article on how Apple were expected to slash prices on their newer phones in 2018. Those who ordered replacement batteries before the price drop may contact Apple for a refund.
