Must-Know Tips for Smarter Online Shopping

This is something every shopper should keep in mind in today’s world of instant online buying.

Here are a few tips to remember when hunting for deals online:

• Don’t shop the deal—shop the need.

A piece of furniture being 75% off doesn’t magically make it useful. Make a list of what you actually need or want, and wait for deals on those items. Don’t let a flashy sale push you into buying something unnecessary.

• The BOGO dilemma.

I’m firmly against BOGO (buy one, get one) offers unless I truly need two of that item. If the “deal” only works because you’re buying a second thing you don’t need, it’s not a deal at all.

• Stick to brands you know.

Online shopping opens doors to thousands of sellers, which is why I lean toward familiar, reputable brands. If it’s your first time buying from a brand, do a quick search and check reviews before checking out.

• Watch out for pricing tricks.

Don’t get hyped by “Reg. $99.99 — Today $49.99” without verifying it. The discount might be legitimate, but compare it with other retailers. A sale price at one site could be the everyday price somewhere else.

• Always check the return policy.

Before buying, read the return policy carefully. Look for the return window, restocking fees, and whether you’d have to pay for return shipping. These small details can turn a “great deal” into an expensive regret.

Keeping these simple tips in mind can help you shop smarter, avoid impulse buys, and dodge buyer’s remorse.

Happy shopping!
